4 Overlooked Utah State Parks + 1 Scenic Trail
Utah State Parks are often overshadowed by what’s known collectively as the “mighty 5” National Parks. At Rogue White & Blue Clothing we’ve decided to shine a light on 4 lesser-known parks and 1 scenic trail that we’ve branded as the “mini 5.”
Fisher Towers | National Scenic Trail
As if a giant had sculpted a massive red rock sandcastle, the spires of Fisher towers dominate the landscape. This National Scenic trail is an excellent alternative or addition to visiting Arches. Great place to escape the Moab crowds!
Kodachrome Basin | Utah State Parks
The hoodoo views of Bryce Canyon typically stop most explorers before they reach Kodachrome Basin. This park is a splash of color worthy of its photography inspired name (Kodachrome was an early type of color film). Interconnecting systems of moderate and safe trails make this a great family destination.
Snow Canyon | Utah State Parks
Not far from the Legendary red rock walls of Zion are the sandstone cliffs of Snow Canyon. Located just north of the town St. George, the parks colorful lava flows and desert landscape is worth the camping trip!
Petrified Forest | Utah State Parks
This place is petrifying! Luckily, petrified wood isn’t actually scary (my puns are awful I know). This is a good family friendly Utah State park in close proximity to Capitol Reef National Park. There are developed trails and standard amenities. Also, there’s a cool reservoir here that’s great for boating!
Dead Horse Point
Speaking of overlooked parks, Dead Horse is quite the park with an overlook! Most people cruise right by on their way to the Island in the sky section of Canyonlands National Park. The beautiful desert terrain here is highly underrated.
There’s a seemingly unlimited amount of parks, trails, and recreation areas in Utah. The 5 National Parks are absolutely awe inspiring…. but don’t forget to get off the beaten path and explore those lesser known Utah State Parks & recreation areas!

I’m not going to do the whole third person bio thing – As a patriotic outdoorsman, I love America and it’s wild places. I grew up in Oregon and moved to Utah in 2009 to get my bachelors degrees in Psychology. I’m an infantryman in the Army National Guard and like to backpack. When I’m not creating American made products for my small business you’ll find me weaving through a canyon or scrambling up a ridge line.
Thanks for reading!
